In Our Children Lead Us Forward: The Real Importance of NLA, Marge Blanc describes Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) as a framework for understanding gestalt language development rather than an intervention. Drawing on long-term clinical observation, the paper outlines the progression from echolalia to self-generated, grammatical language and emphasizes recognizing natural variations in language development.

Here is the Revised Chapter 19 from the Natural Language Acquisition book. It includes revised scoring guidelines, to eliminate the half-scores. The linguistic environments of our children today are too complex to ‘fudge’ on Stage 3, like was common in the ‘old days’ when Barry Prizant recognized the first four stages of gestalt language development. Chapter 19 was revised in 2022, and again in 2023, to reflect the *true* Stage 3 that we support today. This stand-alone chapter is now sent to purchasers of the NLA book, but those of you who have had the book for longer than two years may not have this!
